Independence

Today is July 4th, 2012. In the United States we celebrate July 4th as Independence Day, a day commemorating the adoption of the Declaration of Independence on July 4, 1776, thereby declaring independence from Great Britain.

I feel it can also be a day that celebrates personal independence. A day signifying change. A day signifying newness and possibility.

It is with that line of thought in mind that I revitalize Simple Black Coffee. I will set myself free from what the blog signified in 2010 and 2011. It has served it’s purpose as an aid in documenting my journey to minimalist living. I’m setting it free to now serve as a vehicle for other thoughts and topics.

This is not an indication that topics like simple living and minimalism won’t be addressed, it’s that you’ll see and read about other things that, hopefully, will be of interest to you. Stuff like: Reviews of products I have used and like. Random thoughts. A weekly round-up of good stuff that I’ve seen throughout the week. (Look for the first one this Friday) Pictures I take that I think you might enjoy. That sort of stuff.

This website will no longer be devoted to one topic but many, hopefully reflective of my personality and interests. It’s my hope that Simple Black Coffee will continue to pique your interest and you’ll hang around.

Happy Independence Day! What can you declare YOUR independence from today?

  • Fear of starting a new project?
  • Fear of giving up on a project that is no longer working?
  • Dependence on someone that is no longer adding value to your life?
  • Trying to keep up with social networks and technology?
  • Being someone you’re not?
  • Keeping up with the Joneses?

While January 1st has often been the day that everyone tries to make a fresh start there’s really no reason that you can’t reinvent yourself any day of the year. But, if you need a specific day to start something, why not declare your own Independence Day? Start or stop something today, July 4, 2012.

  1. Most excellent, Sir! I needed another *Clean Slate: Day 1*… Why wait till Monday? July 4th is as good a time as any to declare my independence from the three-headed Dragon known as Lethargy (as described by Michael Hyatt in his life-changing article “Slay Your Dragons Before Breakfast). Today I wield my sword! Thanks, friend! :)

  2. Awesome! Can’t wait to read more. Oddly enough, while N & I were out for a drive today, I thought that 7/4 seemed just as good a day as 1/1 to make resolutions!
