Just a short update for week 15. I only completed 2 things to continue simplifying my life.
1. During the process of adding clothes back to my closet from Project 333 I found a number of things that were now easy to eliminate from my wardrobe. It’s amazing how 3 months with a finite number of clothes shows you what you really don’t need. For example, I had 2 heavyweight chamois shirts. Both were showing signs of wear with a couple small holes and rips here and there and a couple stains. There was no reason I needed 2 of these for use as work shirts. I picked the one I liked best and the other is gone. I’m still aiming to get my entire year round wardrobe down to 50-60 items. I’ve not counted but I think I’m hovering near 80 right now.
I eliminated a pair of shoes, 3 long sleeve button down shirts, 3 t-shirts, 1 pair of shorts, 1 pair of khaki pants and 2 pairs of socks. Also, in the process of packing up winter clothes for summer, the family eliminated a pair of kids snow pants, 3 hats, a scarf and a pair of earmuffs.
2. I’ve been getting behind on paperwork for Cub Scouts, household stuff and filing. This weekend I looked at the mess on my desk and realized I needed to change the layout of the desk in order to maximize my productivity. Several years ago we purchased an L-shaped desk designed for a desktop computer complete with an under-desk slide out keyboard drawer and a shelving area to fit a monitor and printer. It resembled this one as far as layout. But now that we only have a laptop -that rarely stays on the desk- the original layout was wasted space and felt cluttered to me. I removed the keyboard drawer and took off the top shelving unit. I now have only a flat L-shaped desk with 2 drawers under one side. I like it a lot better. I completely changed the setup of the items that sit on the desk and it already feels more conducive to my productivity.
While it was only a couple things this week I feel the change in desk layout will affect how much work I can complete, thereby creating a more simple life.
